Coastal Pet Rescue is a local, award winning, family friendly, non-profit organization which helps the community to prevent abuse to animals by rescuing them from endangering situations and finding them permanent homes. CoDE feels strongly about their cause, and is excited tell you about The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter & Challenge. Together with Petfinder the Animal Rescue Site is awarding $100,000 in grants to eligible Petfinder.com member rescue organizations to help animals.

Lisa here is a wonderful friend, but also a caring, passionate and driven individual who does so much for the homeless and abused pets here in the Coastal Savannah area. Times have been rough in this economy and donations aren’t up to par and Coastal Pet Rescue can really use this WIN to put towards vet bills, spays/neuters and finding homeless pets long term loving homes and families that will love them. It would be a WIN for all involved.

A Dog’s Purpose. (From the view of a 6 year old)

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker ‘s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on… Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion… We sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ”I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.

He said,”People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The Six-year-old continued,

”Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

The Savannah Craft Brew Fest is the area’s much-anticipated opportunity to experience a two-day festival devoted to the craft brew lover. Meet brewers from across the U.S. while tasting premium craft beer on beautiful Savannah Harbor.

On Friday, September 4 at the Craft Brew Pairings Dinner, enjoy the tastes of great Lowcountry cuisine while sampling craft brews that have been chosen to enhance the flavor. This event will feature the best of Southern cuisine and craft brews from across the U.S. with live entertainment by Junkyard Angel. The dinner will be held at the Morris Center at Trustees Garden starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 in advance and $75 at the door. All proceeds will benefit Senior Citizens, Inc.

The Savannah Craft Brew Fest will take place on Saturday, September 5 from 1-7 p.m. and will feature more than 120 different craft brews, live entertainment by Jason Courtenay and The Chuck Courtenay Band, delicious food offerings and souvenir items for sale. Overlooking the Savannah River and beautiful Historic Savannah, this outdoor event will be held on the Esplanade at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.

KShuttle will be providing a Hotel Shuttle from the Savannah Airport to the Historic District Hotels including the Marriott, Inn at Ellis Square, River street Inn, Hyatt, Four Points Sheraton as well as the Westin Savannah Harbor and will be running every 30 minutes beginning 10:00am until after the final flight lands each day, September 20th – 22nd, and again on the 25th to shuttle passengers back to the airport.

A meet and greet ground transportation desk in the baggage claim area will be open Sunday – Tuesday, September 20 – 22 to assist with inbound passengers registered for shuttle transportation to downtown Savannah Hotels and the Westin.
